QR code

QR code shows the address of the page you are on as a code your phone can scan. Use it to check a page on a real phone, or to hand a link to someone in the room, without typing a long address or sending it to yourself.

Using it

  1. Turn it on in Settings > Toolbox: it is off by default.
  2. Open the toolbox and click the QR code button.
  3. Point your phone's camera at the code to open the page there.

The address is written under the code. Two buttons sit above it:

  • Copy link puts the address on your clipboard. The button says Copied once it is there.
  • Download saves the code as a PNG named after the site, such as tweak-qr-example.com.png. The button says Saved once the file is on its way.

Good to know

  • The address is read each time you open the tool. On a single-page app, where the address changes without the page reloading, click the button again to get a code for where you are now.
  • A phone that scans the address of a page on localhost, 127.0.0.1 or ::1 opens its own localhost, not your computer's. The tool says so under the code: open the page on your computer's network address (such as http://192.168.1.20:3000) and scan that instead. A file: address opens only on the computer it is on, and the tool says that too.
  • A very long address does not fit in a QR code. The tool says This address is too long for a QR code. and offers Copy link only.
  • The downloaded PNG is black on white with a margin around the code, sharp enough for a slide or a printout.
  • The code is made inside the extension: the address is never sent anywhere to turn it into a picture.
