Troubleshooting
In this section we highlight how to troubleshoot some common issues our users might find working with tweak.
Extension popup UI is frozen or does not stop loading​
TL;DR Reload tweak from your browser's extensions page. If the issue persists you need to reinstall the extension.
Sometimes we make mistakes. If for some reason you run into a bug it can completely freeze the UI. Although uncommon we do consider this scenario, so there are two attempts you should make to solve this problem.
Your browser's extensions page is chrome://extensions on Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers, and about:addons on Firefox.
- Press the refresh button next to tweak, this might reload the extension and dismiss any future bad behavior.
- In case it does not work, uninstall the extension from that page so you can install a fresh version of tweak. Most likely you ended up in a scenario where extension data is corrupted and there's nothing else we can do there.
To help us avoid this from happening again send us the content of the "Errors" panel (red button in the extension panel) and submit the information in a bug report.
Autocompletion (request recording) suddenly stops working​
TL;DR Reload tweak from your browser's extensions page.
In case requests autocomplete was working smoothly for you before and it suddently stopped, open your browser's extensions page and locate tweak there.
If you see service worker (Inactive) this is a sign that the browser forcefully shutdown our extension in the background, which blocks us from recording requests.
Background scripts are shut down by design once they go idle (documented here for Chrome), so reloading the extension is the workaround we have.
Troubleshooting errors in hooks​
TL;DR A failing hook reports on its own rule's editor, in a red footer under your code. Read it there.
When a request hook or a response hook fails, tweak does not raise a toast. It docks a red footer under that rule's editor carrying the error, the line of your own code that raised it, and the request that triggered it, so the rule identifies itself. A folded rule grows a small red mark next to its name instead; clicking it unfolds the rule onto the hook that failed.
Each hook has its own troubleshooting section, with the failures specific to it:
A hook that returns nothing is not an error: a response hook forwards the response untouched and a request hook leaves the request as it was. If nothing seems to happen and no footer appears, check that your hook actually returns something.
There is a red dot on the tweak icon in the browser toolbar​
TL;DR It means this tab is recording HTTP requests. Click the search icon in the tweak top bar to stop it.
The dot is not an error or a warning, it is the requests autocomplete capture indicator: tweak is recording the requests of that tab so you can search them from the URL field. It shows only on the tab that is recording, and it goes away as soon as you turn capture off.
Uninstalled tweak and the extension is still intercepting requests​
TL;DR Close your browser tab to clean up tweak page scripts.
tweak uses scripts to interact with your web pages. These scripts are long-lived so the extension can provide the best experience when start/stopping interception of requests. After uninstalling, if you were using tweak in any of your open browser tabs, to guarantee that you are completely clear of tweak side-effects you must close and reopen any browser that was active at the time you had tweak installed in your browser.
